Brooke White Expecting First Child

Last January, Brooke White made her acting debut in the FOX TV movie Change of Plans, telling PEOPLE, “the theme of the movie is unexpected things come into your life, and those unexpected things are the best.”
This year, that theme comes through for White as she makes another debut — as a first-time mom!
White, 28, the season 7 American Idol finalist known for her sunny vocals and piano skills, is expecting her first child in May with husband Dave Ray.
“We’re so excited,” White tells PEOPLE. “By the time the baby’s born, we’ll have been married eight years. I met Dave when I was 19 years old — we’ve been together a really long time, and we’ve always wanted to be parents.”

White first revealed her pregnancy on Dec. 16 through her blog Brookie Babble in a cute video post with her rubbing her tummy and taking an excited leap.
“My baby’s been a gem to me already,” says White. “I really haven’t slowed down since finding out the news in September. But I kept it a secret until about two weeks ago. There are a few really hard secrets I’ve kept in my life — one was American Idol and the other was being pregnant. I’m a confidentiality pro!”
At the halfway point in her pregnancy, White is still producing music with writing partner Jack Matranga as the duo Jack and White, and shooting video shorts with Eliza magazine editor Summer Bellessa under the name The Girls with Glasses Show.
“I thought I would be miserable and having every symptom in the book,” White says. “Dave was excited for the day we’d have kids but dreaded the day I’d get pregnant because he wasn’t sure he could handle me! But I’ve been on the road doing the shows and minus some pretty good exhaustion and heartburn, I’ve actually done really well.”
A touring life does have pre-natal scheduling challenges, though.
“Come 7:30 at night,” White says, “you really have to trick yourself into staying awake. That was really hard on the road when you have an 11 o’clock show and you have to drag yourself up there sometimes. One of the amazing things I’ve experienced — and it just started happening Monday — was feeling her kick for the first time.”
As White describes, “I was laying down in bed and had the sniffles. I had my hand rested on my stomach and boom, I felt the kick on my hand, and she did it five times. That was beyond one of the coolest feelings I have ever experienced!”
At 12 weeks, White and Ray were told they were expecting a girl, but will know for sure soon.
“So I’ve been buying little outfits and I can barely contain my excitement,” White says, “but honestly — and I genuinely mean this — if my little girl decided to change her mind and become a boy, I’d be stoked either way! I’ll just be happy to have a healthy baby.”

Scotty McCreery kicks off tour with Brad Paisley

“The nerves I had yesterday rivaled the nerves I had the American Idol finale night,” the 17-year-old singer says. Scotty and The Band Perry are support acts for Paisley’s Virtual Reality World Tour 2012, which plays St. Paul, Minn., on Friday.
The performance was Scotty’s first real show since coming off the American Idols Live Tour in September. That, of course, was a very different experience: “The Idol tour, I was the last person to go on; it was building up towards me,” he says. “Now I’m the guy that’s building up towards The Band Perry and Brad.”
Scotty started off with Water Tower Town. His set included singles I Love You This Big and The Trouble With Girls, as well as You Make This Look Good, which received its live debut Thursday.
“The Idol winner was aw-shucks-adorable as he announced his debut album had just gone platinum, and was at his charming, old school best on age-appropriate tunes such as Write My Number on Your Hand and The Trouble with Girls,” writes The Grand Rapids Press reviewer, Lorilee Craker.
Even though it was Brad’s crowd, a few fans were there for Scotty. “I saw some signs out there, saw some fans down front.” He also saw a couple after the show, when his bus driver noticed a few shivering fans who had been waiting in the Grand Rapids snow for an hour and a half in hopes of meeting the singer. “I ran out there in my sweatpants to say hey and take a picture,” Scotty says. “If they’re waiting that long in the snow, I’d better go meet them.”

'Idol' Kelly Clarkson to sing anthem at Super Bowl

"American Idol" Kelly Clarkson is set to perform at America's most popular sporting event: the Super Bowl.
Clarkson has been chosen to sing the national anthem before the NFL championship game at Indianapolis on Feb. 5, a person familiar with Super Bowl entertainment plans told The Associated Press on Wednesday.
The person spoke on the condition of anonymity because no announcement has been made. The league is expected to reveal the anthem singer later this month.
Since becoming the first winner of "American Idol" a decade ago, Clarkson has sold more than 20 million albums worldwide and had more than a half-dozen singles reach the top 10 in the Billboard Hot 100.
Among her hit songs: "Since U Been Gone" and "My Life Would Suck Without You." Her latest album, "Stronger," was released last year. Clarkson is currently on tour and appeared as the musical guest on "Saturday Night Live" last weekend.
Also slated to participate in the Super Bowl pregame festivities at Lucas Oil Stadium: country music couple Miranda Lambert and Blake Shelton, singing "America the Beautiful."
Grammy-winner Lambert released her latest album, "Four the Record," last fall. Shelton is a judge on "The Voice," a singing competition on NBC, which is broadcasting the Super Bowl this year.
The NFL announced in December that Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee Madonna will perform at halftime of the league's title game.
At last year's Super Bowl between the Packers and Steelers in Dallas, pop star Christina Aguilera flubbed a line while belting out the national anthem.
When she was supposed to sing the line "O'er the ramparts we watched, were so gallantly streaming," Aguilera instead repeated an earlier line, with a slight variation -- drawing plenty of attention on social media such as Twitter.
Afterward, Aguilera released a statement saying: "I can only hope that everyone could feel my love for this country and that the true spirit of its anthem still came through."
Others who have performed the national anthem at the Super Bowl include Carrie Underwood -- like Clarkson, an "American Idol" product -- Whitney Houston, Billy Joel, Diana Ross, Neil Diamond, Beyonce and Mariah Carey.
